Practice Insurance
Practice, or surgery insurance provides cover for buildings and/or contents of a surgery, interruption to the business causing loss of income or accounts receivable, employer’s, public and products liability, computer breakdown, terrorism, legal protection and loss recovery.
If you already have cover in place but have recently added new equipment then your practice insurance may need reviewing. It’s important to make sure you are adequately covered at all times.
Make sure you calculate the full replacement cost of your practice or surgery equipment. Then consider the value of computer equipment such as PC's and laptops. Add in the value of other items such as furniture, cabinets and decoration - remember, if the practice was destroyed in a fire for example, you will have to replace everything inside, so make sure it's covered.
If you rent or lease your premises, then you should only need to insure the contents. It is normally your landlord or property owner's responsibility to insure the buildings. But make sure you are covered for any interior changes you make such as building or removing walls etc. These can be covered under a contingency called 'tenants improvements'.
